CAMPUS DEVELOPMENT MODEL

Pepperdine Campus

Pepperdine University and Perkins & Will needed a campus model of The Mountain, a proposed development in Malibu, for Pepperdine's annual alumni fundraising event, just over two months away.

ABOUT THE MODEL

A fundraising centerpiece on a two-month deadline

We worked with the planners and architects as the design took shape. Neoscape was producing the audiovisual presentation, so we coordinated the model's lighting with their show. The finished model, 80 × 116 inches at 1 inch = 4 feet, was unveiled at the fundraising event at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.

The model and audiovisual presentation were parts of the same fundraising event, which made coordination with Neoscape a distinct part of the brief. Lighting had to be considered alongside the campus design as it developed. The large display translates every four feet of the proposed development into one model inch, giving the event a physical campus reference alongside the screen-based presentation.

A campus proposal for a live event

Pepperdine University and Perkins & Will needed a model of the proposed Mountain campus development in Malibu for an alumni fundraising event. The project had a little over two months to reach its presentation date. The model’s purpose, deadline and event setting were therefore part of the brief alongside the campus design.

Scale and the audience’s view

At 1 inch = 4 feet, the model’s scale is 1:48. Its 80 × 116 inch footprint makes the display a substantial physical centerpiece. The scale provides a close architectural view of the proposal, while the audiovisual presentation supplies another way to tell the campus story. The two formats can be planned together around what the audience should notice.

Coordinating the presentation

Archetype3D worked with the planners and architects while the design developed and with Neoscape on lighting for the event. The model was unveiled at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. The case shows why an event model needs a coordinated plan for the design information, physical display and presentation team. For an upcoming campaign or campus announcement, our project process guide explains how to begin the conversation before every design detail is final.
