Scale model repair and refurbishment
Archetype3D repairs, updates and refurbishes physical scale models, including models built by other shops. From our Denver shop, or on site, we fix damaged parts, restore lighting and wiring, clean and refinish surfaces, replace cases and update models when plans change.

What we repair
Damage. Broken or missing buildings, trees, vehicles and fine details, including damage from shipping or moves.
Lighting and electronics. Failed lighting, wiring, controls and motorized parts.
Wear. Dust, fading, yellowed acrylic and worn paint.
Out-of-date models. Developments that changed, sold out or added a phase, where buildings, lots or landscape need to be added, removed or replaced.
Repair and update projects
XTI Aircraft’s demonstration model came to our shop after museum display; we repaired the body, rewired the electrical components, reworked the base, repainted it and built a custom travel crate. For Austin Mueller, we updated an existing 8 × 8 foot development model with new buildings matched to the original finish, installed them in Austin, and cleaned and touched up the rest. At the Mueller State Park Visitor Center, we repaired a rock in an exhibit model and cleaned the whole piece on site in a single afternoon. More in our repair guide.
Architectural model repair, restoration and cleaning
For a repair assessment, send an overall photograph and close-ups of damaged or worn areas, along with the model’s dimensions, location and a description of the problem. We'll tell you whether it can be repaired, whether the work should happen in our shop or on site, and what it will cost. We assess the model's materials, condition and intended use before recommending work.
What it costs
If a small piece has broken off, we can often make and mail a replacement at no cost. Larger repairs receive a fixed-cost proposal after we review photos, the damage and the model’s location. The scope depends on replacement parts, refinishing, materials, transport and whether work happens in our shop or on site.
Models we ship are covered by our arrival guarantee: if a model arrives damaged, we repair it at no cost.
Common questions
Do you repair models built by other companies?
Yes. We repair and refurbish physical scale models regardless of who built them.
Can you update a model when a project changes?
Yes. We can add, remove or change buildings, lots, landscape and lighting to keep a model current, as we did on the Austin Mueller model.
Do you offer on-site repairs?
Yes, depending on the work needed and the model’s location. We provide a fixed-cost proposal after reviewing the repair scope, site access, schedule and travel requirements.
How much does a scale model repair cost?
It depends on the damage. A small broken-off piece can often be replaced by mail at no cost; larger repairs receive a fixed-cost proposal after we review photos, the damage and the model’s location.
How do I get a repair quote?
Send photos of the model and a description of the problem through our contact page. We'll reply with a recommendation and a fixed price.
Have a model that needs attention?
