When is a physical model worth making?

A physical scale model is useful when people need to understand how things fit together. That might mean exploring an unbuilt neighborhood, examining equipment that cannot travel or seeing parts of a facility that are usually out of sight.

Ask what people need to see

For a development, it might be how the streets, buildings and open space fit together. For equipment, it might be what happens under a cover. In our Data Center model, the roof lifts and lights identify systems that are otherwise out of sight during a tour.

Think about the setting

Will people gather around it in a sales center? Will it travel to shows? Will visitors encounter it in a museum? Where it will live affects the size, finish and durability of the model. We ask about that before recommending a scale.

Know when to use something else

If the design changes daily, a digital model may be easier to keep current. If you need to show actual movement or a photorealistic interior, video or rendering may answer the question better. We can talk through the options before you commit to a build.
