We tested different resin mixtures and consistencies until we found the combination of material and light that made the layers visible. Lit from below, the full-scale, 48-inch core shows its layers through the resin, and visitors get a direct sense of the real object's size rather than inferring it from a diagram.

This exhibit uses full size rather than reducing a landscape or building. A 1:1 scale means the physical core’s dimensions can be understood directly. Material development was therefore central to the result: the resin had to reveal internal layers when illuminated, rather than simply resemble an opaque cylinder. The below-lighting and layered material work together to make the core’s structure visible to visitors.
