3D printing for physical scale models

One tool in the model-making process

Yes, we use 3D printing. It is one of the techniques our model makers use alongside cutting, milling, painting and assembly to create finished physical scale models.

Choose the method for the part

A model may combine printed components with other materials and fabrication methods. We choose the approach around the geometry, scale and finish the project needs. For the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church proposal, for example, we used laser cutting, 3D printing and hand painting together. For the Cobra Dane retirement models, we worked from photographs and a client-supplied 3D file.

From a file to a finished model

A 3D file can be a useful starting point, but the finished presentation also depends on the construction, surface finish and details. Tell us what you need to show, and we can talk through whether printed components or a complete custom model would suit the job.
